Project Manager (Contract)

Purpose  

Under minimum supervision, carries out project leadership functions including leading large scale/complex NPD project teams by planning, coordinating, and communicating between various departmental disciplines.  On certain NPD projects, would assist the lead engineers and product managers in the development and planning of residential and commercial consumer products.  In performing these functions, the Project Manager will exercise extensive latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.  Works in conjunction with various other business and operational groups across the company to execute products from conceptual phases through to manufacturing/commercial launch. Project Managers may have direct supervisory roles or indirect reporting over other members within the organization. 

Presently this position is in a hybrid status with a minimum of 3 days/week in the office for collaboration, teamwork, and business needs.  The status and minimum in-office requirements are subject to change based on evolving business needs.

 Key Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) 

Planning: Identifying and driving Who is going to do What by When. 

• Clarify project scope and responsibilities to the team 

• Develop and implement project plans and schedules 

Leading: Carrying out the project plan in order to achieve the project objectives. 

• Lead cross-functional teams, motivating team members and assigning work. 

• Coordinating and collaborating on key deliverables across different organizational functions and cross-functional teams. 

Controlling:  Keeping the project on track and meeting all established product metrics. 

• Defining project baselines and track project progress. 

• Project status reporting to upper management on program risks/opportunities. 

• Determining and taking corrective actions. 

Product Development 

• Utilize stage-gating product development process to manage project requirements, timelines and meet technical and financial project objectives. 

• Contribute to product development planning initiatives required to support product portfolio strategy and product roadmaps. 

• Contribute to the development of innovative solutions that meet consumer needs for new products, channel initiatives, and other corporate objectives. 

• Play a key role in strategic product brain-storming leveraging end user insights, competitive analysis, and utilization of manufacturing and customer care data. 

• Leverage experience to provide support to other product engineers and product managers to determine the most optimum path to execute products that showcase innovative features, performance, and deliver on customer requirements. 

Other Duties: 

• Project Managers will take direction primarily from Sr. Project Managers or Directors  

• Effectively communicate project updates and corrective actions to senior leadership. 

Experience & Education 

• BSE or equivalent required; PMP Certification preferred. 

• Minimum of 5 years experience in leading and managing consumer product projects or 10+ years of relevant project management experience  

• Experience working on projects in cross-functional team setting of engineering development & design, product validation, marketing, procurement, production scheduling, materials management, and other disciplines as needed. 

• Experience with mechanical manufacturing and design methods related to metal and plastic type components, finishes, packaging, and various manufacturing process such as stampings, molding, extrusions, and other fabrication methods. 

• Strong capability in all Windows based applications specifically PowerPoint, Excel and MS Project

Travel Requirements 

• Willingness to travel to domestic and international engineering centers, manufacturing sites, and suppliers.
