Presently this position is in a hybrid status with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office for collaboration, teamwork, and business needs.  The status and minimum in-office requirements are subject to change based on evolving business needs.

Overview

This position is responsible for engineering leadership and technical ownership of a defined product category. The Product Engineer leads and manages small to medium complexity New Product Development (NPD) and Total Cost Analysis (TCA) projects, ensuring product integrity, manufacturability, and compliance with company and industry standards. The role works cross-functionally to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions and drives project execution from concept through production.

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working under Direct supervision leads and manages small to medium complexity NPD and TCA projects for assigned product category, including project planning, scheduling, scope definition, and cross-functional coordination in conjunction with the PMO.
  • Owns technical responsibility for new product development from concept through production, including engineering, cost, manufacturability, and quality.
  • Translates end user insights, competitive analysis, and voice of the customer into product specifications in cooperation with Product Management.
  • Drives and supports product design teams to deliver innovative solutions for new products, line extensions, cost and quality improvements, and other corporate objectives.
  • Partners with Industrial Design to ensure aesthetics deliver design intent while maintaining adherence to specifications and quality.
  • Collaborates with advanced development, industrial design, product design, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to build and validate prototypes and execute manufacturing build plans.
  • Participates in Design Review, DFMEA, DFM-A, and PFMEA activities led by Product Design Engineering, ensuring risk and process analysis aligns with product requirements and business goals.
  • Develops and executes testing plans to ensure product design meets all government and internal safety and quality standards.
  • Participates in the creation and evaluation of intellectual property and patents.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation, including drawings, BOMs, engineering change orders, and compliance records.
  • Partners with Product Management to ensure key engineering deliverables, quality, performance, and cost targets are met.
  • Supports competitive technical benchmarking and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Understands and follows Quality Management System and relevant industry regulations and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job.

Qualifications

Education, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field required; Master’s degree a plus.

 

Years of Experience and Knowledge

  •    5 ~ 7 years of new and sustaining product development design and independent project management, with significant “hands on” expertise.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of 3D/2D CAD (SolidWorks 3D and AutoCAD 2D preferred), PowerPoint, MS Project, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and execution skills with a degree of independent judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to focus on personal accountability and motivate a team, demonstrating attributes of team building and project ownership.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to seek out solutions across functional departments and remote sites.
  • Raises issues and opportunities to improve project status and procedures proactively to allow risk mitigation and prompt problem resolution.
  • Ability to comply with procedural requirements and understand and apply specifications, with an eye for simultaneous process improvement.
  • Design knowledge in multiple manufacturing processes including sheet metal, extrusions, finishing operations, joining, welding, machining, fixtures, and injection molded plastic.

Travel Requirements

  • 10% ~ 20% travel domestically and internationally required to engineering centers, manufacturing sites, and suppliers
